Are you playing as Alliance or Horde?  Which server are you on?  What type of character did you roll?

Reason I ask is ’cause I’m on a ten day free trial of WoW and want to see if we can meet up.  Let me know.  If you don’t get this soon enough, by my standards, I’ll just probably call you.

Randomly, I got to thinking about junior high and the first day of school.

Back then (and up through high school), the first day always consisted of getting a class schedule and reporting to said classes in order. Once in class, you would fill out a personal information sheet with name, address, class schedule and the lot. Never really sure what it was for, I tended to fill out everything rather truthfully and handed it in.

However, there was always, without fail, a blank slot beside name marked “What you would like to be called.” It was an obvious attempt to get teenagers to establish some sort of identity and self-worth at creating said identity.  This is also probably the space where my wife went from being Lorena to LorY (with a capital Y), Judiths became Judies, Marcuses became Marks and the like.

But my name is Joseph and the only alternate is Joe or Joey and I was already Joey at home and never Joe until I moved away from home. So what was I to do? I remained Joseph throughout high school.

But what if I had requested to be called Jofus? Would it have been honored? What about Roy or Big Daddy Delicious or something completely random like Jiminy Cricket? I think there may have been limits but now I’m curious to see how the schools would react if my own children were to walk in demanding to be called Captain Caveman. I hope they give in.

Maybe I’ll name one of our kids Frankenstein or Rufus.

A while ago, Aaron created No Veil, a fantasy fiction side project site.

Today I have created Reasonably-Sized Salad, a food blog dedicated to the culinary exploits of LorY and I. Take a look if you get a chance. Right now it’s still a work in progress. But seriously, start at the greeting (at the bottom of the page) — it sure makes more sense that way.

In case you’re wondering, I’ll still be a contributing author on Pandaemonium, I could never leave you guys. This is just a new venture I’m working on too.
