I Could Save $1.80 a Week?

So there’s been a lot of talk about giving the people a “gas tax holiday” during the summer months when people drive more. I have a few problems with this “solution”:
- Oil companies are greedy: What’s to stop them from simply filling the void, so to speak, and charging that extra 18 cents and maybe even more just to keep gas prices at their current level so the American people won’t notice the difference?
- It doesn’t really help: I have a 10 gallon tank in my ‘99 Saturn. If I save 18 cents every gallon I’ll be saving $1.80 every week, which is how often I fill up, and usually I put in only around 8 gallons, but for the sake of argument, let’s just say $1.80 and let’s further assume that gas prices won’t go up. That’s $7.20 a month. Let’s see, I could buy myself about two extra gallons of gas with that, at current prices where I live. It’s not enough.
- America is stupid: We’ll probably fawn all over whoever follows through on this. What we should do, is all buy bikes or unicycles and ride them to work. It’s a better solution than pogo sticks. Because until someone decides to cut into the gross amount of money the oil companies are making in profits, there won’t be any change.

Anyway, forgive the length in posting times. Testing week just wrapped up and now my brain function not good. Write later.
