My birthday was a couple weekends ago so we decided to spend the weekend in the city. We left on Friday afternoon and checked in to our hotel. We got ready for our Knicks and Spurs basketball game. We walked down a few blocks and we found a great restaurant named Duke’s. For once, I was finally able to sit and enjoy a really well done chicken fried chicken plate while I stared jealously while Joseph had a chicken fried steak sandwich.
We walked to Penn Station and went to MSG. It was a great nail biting game and the Spurs won. We got back to the hotel and I decided that I wanted a snack. We walked so much that night my feet still hurt. Everything was either closed or packed. We finally found a nice restaurant and decided to go in. Everybody but us was plastered. Why do people like Mexican restaurants? The Margaritas!!! Not the salsa, not the spices — the drinks. I wonder if we should tell them that it wasn’t even invented by a Mexican but whatever, it gets them through life.
We left and got to our room, very tired. Saturday was a great day. We woke up early and walked down to the Apple store. After that we had brunch (another excuse to get drunk). We walked around a lot and then headed to the room.
We got dressed for our dinner reservations. We had made reservations at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill. I was so excited my stomach hurt. When we made the reservations we had a list of things that we were expected to do. The whole party had to be there to be seated, we had to get there by 6:15, we had to confirm our reservations by 2:00 pm that day and we had to leave by 8:00 due to other guests arriving. Anyhow, the food was divine. I don’t even know that I can explain how great it was.
As an appetizer we had a blue corn tamale. For my entree I had a 16 spice chicken. We were able to identify all but 4 spices. Joseph ordered the Chipotle crusted NY strip steak. For dessert we ordered a pineapple empanada with ice cream. We loved it. It was so great. I think I got drunk from the food. We walked around a bit and called it a day. It was the best city experience ever. We weren’t around the tourists and we enjoyed great food.
