Song of Shame: Vanessa Carlton - Nolita Fairytale

You can give it a listen here.

I know liking Vanessa Carlton is tantamount to writing “Shallow Latin Queer Bait!” in big black letters on a piece of cardboard and hanging it around my neck. Still, I love this song. It sounds like her involvement with Stephan Jenkins (front man for Third Eye Blind) even went into the recording studio with her as the piano chords and her singing is just a bit too reminiscent of his and his band’s style. Being a Third Eye Blind fan myself (tantamount to writing “Easy and Vapid White Girl” in big black letters etc.), it’s not surprising that I gravitate to pretty much anything Stephan touches.

Oh, that didn’t come out right at all…

  1. Being a fan of 3eb, I can sympathize. Still, no matter how much influence there is of that bad on this one girl, it doesn’t make her songs or voice any more tolerable to me.

  2. However, I’m sure there was a two hour span soon after hearing the song for the first time where I could not get the damn hooks out of my head — that if anything is the landmark of a 3eb song.

  3. You know it’s tempting to just flood the site with SoS posts, as I have many and I’m fairly sure they’d fill all our lives with a bit more hilarity. But then I think of Assassin’s Creed.

I have to leave now on a totally unrelated matter.

  4. Why would you ever do us the disservice of not allowing us to revel in your (songs of) shame? ;)

  5. Btw, where did the Vodpod widget go?
