My Most Tagged Post

Wherein I shall catch up on all the folderol that I’ve been meaning to discuss since about a month ago, but barely found the time…also some recent stuff that’s happened in my life. It’s a long post, so I shall be utilizing the handy cut off link…now!

Entertainment Wise

In Books:

  • I’ve been reading V for Vendetta and it’s pretty dense. Possibly too dense for a comic book. That, and the art style is kind of off. It’s visually unique in that I’ve never really seen anything quite like it, but it sometimes gets in the way of me deciphering what’s going on in any given panel. Still, it’s a good read, if a bit longwinded sometimes. The story isn’t as spoon fed to you the way the movie adaptation is, leaving a lot more open to interpretation.
  • Stephanie’s taking a class about vampires in literature and she recently was assigned the last man on earth story of I Am Legend. You’ve probably seen trailers for the upcoming movie adaptation starring none other than the Fresh Prince himself Will Smith. I read it in about two days, maybe close to six hours of real-time reading. It’s a good story and I recommend it, especially if you like to compare books to their respective films. Maybe you can find a copy with a less ugly cover (seriously, that guy on the bottom right looks way too thirsty…for blood!).

In Movies:

  • Movies to see:
    Hitman
    Enchanted
    The Mist
    The Golden Compass
    I Am Legend
  • The Mist was a pretty good view. Not a horror movie in the gory or torture porn sense, but more a suspenseful thriller in the vein of Jurassic Park (the movie, not the book). I’d recommend it easily if you enjoy that kind of stuff, despite its questionable ending. Worth mentioning is that it was directed by the same guy who adapted The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, two of my favorite films.
  • Trailers for Cloverfield continue to pique my interest. J.J. Abrams is the only thing that has me leery, as I don’t watch Lost, never saw Alias, and hated MI:3.

In Games:

  • Playing Halo 3 online is an experience unlike any other, whether because of the camaraderie enjoyed with your teammates or because of the shrieking pre-pubescent wankers.  There’s nothing quite like the feeling of completely owning (sorry, pwning) eight other people with your wife and two gravity hammers between you.
  • Team Fortress 2 is actually more fun…when you can find a match that isn’t laggy, doesn’t lag in the middle of play, doesn’t boot you off the game due to a lost connection, and you end up with a team that has headsets, good manners, knows how to effectively operate in their class, and follows the objectives of each map.  TF2 is more work and has more variables that need to be met, but when they’re met Halo can’t compare.
  • If there’s one game I’ve played all year that I think could get Joseph to buy a 360, it would be Portal.  Then again, he could play it on a computer if he had the hardware.  Then again, there’s always the free to play flash version, which is not endorsed by Valve and doesn’t have the real games sense of black humor, but manages to capture a tiny bit of the genius in the gameplay mechanics.
  • Don’t play Desktop Tower Defense if you value your free time.

Lifewise

  • Mom’s engaged…again.
  • Steph’s finally almost finished with school.
  • Bills continue to suck.

Huh…I’m less wordy about my life than about what entertains me.  Whatever.  I guess I need to remove that “Reflection” tag.  I apologize for the bevy of Wikipedia links, but it’s the only thing I can get to right now.  Maybe I’ll update the post with better links to reflect the content.

Most likely not.

  1. Dude Portal alone has kindled a desire within me to jump into the “next gen” and get a 360. Yesterday I saw a Brain Age commercial and wanted to get a DS and put it on a credit card. Then I remembered credit cards were the devil.
